Fears of child abduction in Runcorn dispelled
FEARS that a child had been abducted in Runcorn yesterday have been dispelled by Cheshire Police.
Parents at schools across the town were alarmed to receive a letter warning them of an alleged child snatch.
The police had received reports that a man had tried to grab the arm of a boy near to the canal tow path in Runcorn at 12.25pm on Monday, October 7.
The child had been walking ahead of his mother at the time.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said today: “Officers attended the scene and spoke to the mother and, following a full investigation, concluded that no crimes have taken place. The mother has been offered advice and reassurance.
“We are aware that rumours are circulating on the internet regarding this incident and we would like to reassure people that whilst the report was made with good intent it has transpired that no crimes have taken place and the matter is now closed.”
