Widnes school support staff commended in national awards
SIX members of Wade Deacon High School’s support staff have been recognised in the prestigious National Association of School Business Management Awards.
Three members of staff received formal commendations for their contribution to the life and work of the school.
Jean Dowling, who mentors and supports students, was nominated in the pupil development category.
Gary Smith, publicity and marketing manager, was commended for technician of the year for the quality of his promotional work and graphic design.
Site manager Philip Briscoe was commended for premises support for overseeing the transfer of the school to its single site in Birchfield Road.
Wade Deacon’s examinations’ team, led by Karen Jones and the school’s catering manager, Michelle Richardson proceeded to the final stages of the competition.
Michelle was also awarded catering supervisor of the Year in the recent Halton awards.
Doreen Freeman, who works in the pupil support department has been invited to the grand final in London in October and is a strong contender for winning a national award for her outstanding work.
Pamela Wright, OBE, executive principal was thrilled with the successes of everyone involved. She said: “The National Association of School Management Awards recognises the tremendous work that members of staff put in, day in, day out without which our students would not achieve the results they do.
“We work together very closely as a team at Wade Deacon High School and that is what makes the difference for our students. The whole school community is delighted that truly inspirational colleagues have been recognised in such a way.”
