Children's theme park supports Halton families in crisis
12:10pm Friday 27th September 2013 in News
Children's theme park Gulliver's is slashing the price of a day out to help families and individuals in crisis.
The family-run company has released cut price £9 tickets available for visits on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September.
To qualify for the discount, guests must simply bring along an item to donate to an on-site food bank on arrival.
Gulliver's is working with Trussell Trust foodbanks - which fed 346,992 people in crisis across the UK last year - and will hand over all of the food gathered to be circulated among the charity's centres.
The charity supports foodbanks in Widnes and Runcorn.
A spokesperson for Gulliver's, which has a theme park in Warrington, said: "We're always looking for new ways to become even more involved in community projects to help families in need.
"We decided to offer our loyal and generous customers a small incentive to do their bit for a fantastic cause - the number of food banks across the UK has soared over the past few years so we're keen to support them through what is an extremely difficult time for many local families.”
Mike Partridge from the Trussell Trust said: "Rising food and fuel prices, static incomes, high unemployment and changes to benefits are causing more families than ever to struggle to put food on the table - 1 in 5 mums skip meals to feed their children. Therefore Gulliver's support at this crucial time of growth really is fantastic."
Trussell Trust food banks provide three days' emergency food and support to people in crisis.
A list of suitable donations - including fruit juice, tinned meat and fish, cereal, teabags, dried pasta and biscuits - is available on Gulliver's website, www.gulliversfun.co.uk.
Bookings must be made online for 28 and 29 September visits. No promotional code is needed - all single tickets for those dates are set at £9 until stocks sell out.
