12:40pm Saturday 21st September 2013 in News
A WIDNES woman is supporting The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for the second year running.
Carole Talbot raised £500 for cancer sufferers last year and hopes to do even better on Friday, September 27.
She is urging residents across Halton to help Macmillan Cancer Support charity reach its £15 million target.
Carole said: “I hosted a coffee morning last year because I wanted to support the tremendous work of Macmillan.
“Everyone who was invited attended. Even the post woman joined us and despite knowing no-one, by the time she left she knew everyone.”
Grace Higgins, Macmillan fundraising manager for Widnes, said: “We want to make sure no one has to face cancer alone but we can't do it without the amazing people and organisations that fundraise for us.
“Carole’s coffee morning sounds brilliant and I’m sure that she and her friends will have plenty of laughs as well as coffee and cake.”
Everyone is invited hold their own coffee morning in their homes, work places or local community.
Organisers ask for donations in return for drinks and cakes and donate the proceeds to Macmillan.
Grace added: “Money raised from the event will be used to fund Macmillan’s support services in the area.
“Recently we refurbished the Macmillan Delamere information centre at Halton Hospital at a cost of nearly £1million.”
The centre, which opens from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, provides information and support including counselling and complementary therapies to anyone affected by cancer.
