Residents invited to visit new mental hospital in Widnes
A MENTAL health hospital is opening in Widnes, creating 200 new jobs.
Recovery First, a 72-bed state-of-the-art facility will start treating patients at the former Priory site in Bennetts Lane next month.
The Priory Group has teamed up with Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMW) to care for people with serious mental health problems.
Local residents are invited to a drop-in session at the hospital on Tuesday, September 24, from 3pm to 7pm to find out more about it and talk to staff.
The hospital will also care for people with autism, learning difficulties and personality disorder.
Bev Humphrey, chief executive of GMW, said: “We are extremely proud to begin this joint venture.
“We are both leaders in our specialist fields. The Priory has a world-class reputation for their dedication in helpiing people improve their mental health and well-being.
“We are the best performing NHS mental health trust in the north.
“This venture takes the best of the innovative private sector as well as the safety, governance and clinical experience of the NHS.
“I hope this reassures the people if Widnes that their hospital is in safe hands and that we have the opportunity to create a centre of excellence locally.”
Tom Riall, chief executive of the Priory Group, said: “This is the start of a new chapter for our hospital in Widnes and we are delighted to be entering into this exciting new partnership.”
Around £6-7 million of staff wages will be invested in the area when the hospital is fully operational.
