Runcorn bridge closed after second man climbs structure
THE SILVER Jubilee bridge was closed again this morning less than 24 hours after a major incident shut the crossing for 18 hours.
A man climbed onto the structure shortly before 5am today.
The bridge was closed for two hours.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At 4.42am on Tuesday 17 September 2013, police received a report that a man had climbed onto the structure of the Runcorn Bridge.
“Officers and negotiators were called and attended and at 6.18am the man came down and was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia.”
Hundreds of motorists were held up in long queues after a man climbed onto the bridge at 11.49am on Sunday morning.
The 47-year-old man was detained under the Mental Health Act after he eventually came down at 5.30am on Monday morning.
