Armed cash machine robbery in Lower House Lane, Widnes
AN armed robber ambushed two female security offiicers as they delivered money to a Widnes cash machine.
A man, brandishing what is believed to be a firearm, threatened them demanding they open the box they were carrying.
He did not fire the weapon.
The robber took a quantity of cash and fled on a blue Kawasaki motorbike with a second man.
Detectives today appealed for witnesses.
DS Dave Hutcheon said: "Thankfully no one was injured during the incident. We believe they will have swapped vehicles to continue their escape and would urge anyone who has seen suspicious activity in the area or has any information to contact police in order to help us with our enquiries.
"Officers have stepped up patrols in the area to provide reassurance."
The robbery happened at 1.12pm, on Friday, August 13, in Lower House Lane.
The two offenders were dressed in black and wearing black helmets. One of the helmets had a white logo on it. The other was carrying a black bag with white writing on it.
They dumped the bike on land near Green Lane and ran off still wearing their helmets.
Police have been making a search in the area and are making extensive enquiries.
