Halton residents warned of peanut risk in wrongly labelled product
HALTON residents with a nut allergy are being warned to watch out for a product which has been incorrectly labelled and contains peanuts.
Halton Trading Standards is warning that Freemans Confectionery Supplies Ltd has recalled its Many Thanks Pralines with Hazelnut Filling, 115g, with the best before date of 20 March 2014.
Due to a packaging error, certain packs of this date code contain peanuts incorrectly labelled as groundnuts. The incorrect labelling of peanuts poses a public health risk to those who are allergic to peanuts.
The company is recalling the implicated date code from sale and has informed all its distributors. The company will re-label the affected product with the correct information and put it back on sale. In addition, it will contacting the relevant allergy support organisations, which will inform their at-risk members of the recall.
No other Freemans Confectionery Supplies Ltd products are known to be affected.
Customers with an allergy to peanuts are advised not to eat this product but to return it to the store they bought it from for a full refund.
