Budget cuts blamed for this overgrown Runcorn park bench
THIS park bench overgrown with brambles, weeds and grass was captured by World reader, Ray Robinson, from Runcorn.
Ray, of Fox Covert, Norton Cross, said: “This bench was installed on the Town Park facing the Water Tower at Norton, presumably so you could sit and enjoy the view. What a waste of money.”
The bench is covered with so much greenery, it is almost hidden.
Cllr Ron Hignett, Halton Council board member for the physical environment, said: “With recent Government cuts, resources have necessarily had to be concentrated to areas of most need.
"Officers do carry out scheduled visits to Town Park, when they carry out works to keep on top of much of the areas managed in a more formal way.
“Directly due to the reduction of such resources, existing resources are targeted to those areas with the highest footfall, which therefore have higher levels of operational requirement.
“The bench in question, has unfortunately not had necessary work carried out around it, as staff have concentrated on other, more frequently used areas. I will ensure that it is dealt with swiftly."
