Halton CAB volunteer enjoys birthday surprise from Widnes Vikings
RUGBY players gave retired nurse Glenys Arrowsmith a surprise when they turned up to wish her a happy 70th birthday.
She is a volunteer at Widnes Citizens Advice Bureau and couldn’t believe it when Vikings stars Tom Gilmore and Jack Owens took time out of their busy training schedule to visit her.
Shocked Glenys, who lives near Runcorn Town Hall, said:“I’ve been volunteering at the CAB for over three years and when I go home I get a real sense of achievement because I know I’ve helped others solve their problems.
“I’ve made such good friends here at the CAB and I can’t believe they’ve made such a big effort for my birthday.”
Lifelong Vikings fan and CAB trainer, Gill Tague said:“When I found out her 70th was approaching we contacted the Vikings because they do a lot of community work and we wanted their help to mark this special occasion.
“Glenys is a fabulous member of our team and it just shows that age is no barrier to anyone wanting to do voluntary work at the CAB.
“If you’ve got good literacy and numeracy skills and like problem solving then the CAB is the place to volunteer”.
