Epic tale blurs history and fantasy at Halton Castle

THE line between fantasy and reality has been blurred to create an epic tale that was performed at Halton Castle.
Crowds were enthralled by sword fights, drama, live music and dance at two performances of Halton Council’s Castlefield of Dreams project.
The tale drew inspiration from the castle’s history, local mythology and the memories of Halton residents but was set in an alternative world depicting a bitter war between the lands of Runcornshire and Frodge Ham.
Run by The Brindley Youth Theatre, 20 young people performed the tale which imagined the stories behind genuine mysteries from the castle’s history.
These included the burial ground of a horse and the finding of a hidden sum of money in the walls that were carefully integrated into the show but given surprising and magical explanations.
Alongside this, everyday characters from the region’s past, based upon recollections of Castlefields and Halton residents, found themselves transported to the fictional world.
It was funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and Halton Council and performed on August 16 and 17.
