New book celebrates Spike Island Stone Roses gig (From Runcorn and Widnes World)

Iconic Widnes Stone Roses gig remembered in pictures

A SPECIAL event is being held to mark an iconic Widnes gig.

Photographer Ian Tilton and author Claire Caldwell are launching their book, Set In Stone: Stone Roses Photographs, to celebrate the unique Stone Roses gig at Spike island.

Award-winning rock photographer, Ian, captured the 30,000 fans who watched the Manchester legends perform in West Bank, on May 27, 1990.

You may even see yourself in the pictures if you were at the legendary concert.

Ian knew the Stone Roses before they were famous, and shot key moments before the band’s meteoric rise in the late 80s.

He will talk about his book at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 23, at The Studio, Lacey Street, and his photographs will be on display.

Admission is £2 and will be followed by an evening of live music from local band, The Pearlers, playing some Stone Roses hits and DJs.

The book will be available on the night, priced £25, ahead of its publication in September.

Ian is also giving a free talk at 2pm, on Sunday, March 24, at The Studio, for members of Access All Areas, the music project funded by The Big Lottery for young people aged 19 and under.
