A BOTTLE of highly flammable liquid with a piece of paper in the neck was discovered by police officers on patrol in Runcorn on Saturday.

A car was torched in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Runcorn police are investigating links between the two incidents and are appealing for witnesses.

No one was hurt.

The bottle was found in an alleyway at the back of Mevagissey Road in Brookvale at around 11.30am on Saturday, March 9.

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a home in The Uplands, Palacefields, at around 3.30am, on Sunday, March 10.

A car had been torched on the driveway and flames spread to the porchway of an adjoining house.

The police would like to reassure residents that investigations are under way to establish the facts relating to both incidents.

Officers are maintaining a highly visible presence in the area and maintaining close contact with the local community.
