BOOKS have been brought to life for children in Widnes.

A newly refurbished library has opened at Ditton Primary School in Liverpool Road.

Special fun events have been taking place every day as pupils celebrate book week.

Deputy head teacher Judith Hastings said: “We’ve got brand new furniture and more space for lovely new books.

“We’ve got much more space for children to sit and enjoy a read.

“We invited all our guests from John Moores University, Wade Deacon, Bankfield, and Riverside College, to share their favourite books with children.

“It brings books alive and that’s what it’s all about.”

Author, illustrator, and cartoonist, Calvin Innes worked with every class yesterday (Tuesday).

An actor who has been writing stories for pupils is visiting the school tomorrow (Thursday) and children will be dressing up as their favourite book characters.

Pupils have also been working on a book called ‘Until I Met Dudley’, all about inventions.
