A MAN was assaulted by a gang of five men following a collision involving three vehicles.

The 23-year-old sustained injuries to his head and body and was treated in Whiston Hospital.

The police are trying to establish if the two incidents are linked and are appealing for witnesses.

The collision involved a black Mercedes, a black Passatt and a green mini near the Golden Triangle Industrial Estate in Hale Road, at 12.40pm on Sunday, March 3.

It resulted in the Passatt colliding with metal railings and the Mercedes colliding with a wooden fence.

No one was injured.

DS Gary Smith said: "We are investigating the incident and are currently trying to piece together as much information as possible and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and has witnessed the collision to come forward.

"The collision took place on a busy road in the middle of the day and we are urging anyone who has been in the area at the time and may have seen anything significant to contact us.

“We are also urging anyone who may have seen the cars shortly before the collision to contact us."

Shortly after the collision police received reports of a man being assaulted by a group of up to 5 men near to the location of where the collision took place.

The first man is described as white and was wearing a high-visibility jacket.

The second man is described as white and was dressed in black clothing and was wearing a cap.

The third man is described as white, of stocky build and had a beard.

The fourth man is described as white and was wearing black trousers and a grey t-shirt.

All the men are believed to be in their early 20s.
