Halton Council courses offer skills and qualifications
6:40pm Monday 4th March 2013 in News By Barbara Jordan
Courses on offer range from calligraphy to counselling
A FASCINATING array of courses ranging from calligraphy to counselling is being run by Halton Council.
And many are free if you are on certain benefits.
Vocational tuition, in subjects such as construction or IT, could equip you with skills to help find a job.
More than 2000 learners attended courses last year as a springboard to a new hobby or career.
Others signed up to exercise their minds, be creative and make new friends.
Clr Ged Philbin, board member for education, said: "This is a great way to learn new skills and make new contacts. Why not see what we can offer?"
The council's Employment, Learning and Skills Team, based in the Kingsway Learning Centre, Widnes, and the Acorn Learning Centre, Runcorn, are now offering a range of qualifications in a variety of subjects.
Many people who completed a more casual, non-accredited course in the past, have returned to gain a qualification in their chosen subject.
The team offers more than 15 different qualifications in subjects including art and design, multimedia, digital photography, and pattern construction.
