Residents warned of e-mail tax scam

Residents are being warned about an e-mail scam that purports to be from HM Inland Revenue & Customs.
RESIDENTS are being warned about an e-mail scam that purports to be from HM Inland Revenue & Customs.
Halton Trading Standards stresses that HMRC would not inform people of a tax rebate or demand via e-mail, or invite you to complete an online form to receive or claim tax.
Anyone who is due a tax refund would receive written confirmation.
If you ever have any doubt that an e-mail you receive from HMRC is genuine please do not follow any links, disclose any personal details or respond to it.
Please forward it to HMRC at: phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk then delete it.
