CHILDREN discovered how birds build their nests at a fun-fllled event at Fiddler’s Ferry education centre and nature reserve.

Pupils from St Gerard’s RC Primary School in Widnes spent a day creating a giant bird’s nests from twigs.

To begin with, the were challenged to use only one hand to experience how a bird makes a nest using its beak.

Youngsters learnt how to camouflage nests into the natural habitat.

Nature reserve warden, Eamonn Ritchie taught the children about different types of bird nests and how to care for birds.

He took the children out onto the reserve to look for birds nests and different species of bird.

The children helped him to make a large tawny owl box for the reserve and then had fun exploring a bird related treasure hunt.
