Widnes murder trial jury still deliberating

THE jury in the Wayne Basnett murder trial has still not reached a verdict.

Judge Elgan Edwards has sent them home today after they spent the afternoon trying to come to a decision.

The jury of seven women and five men will begin their fifth day of deliberations at Chester Crown Court tomorrow.

Michael Eves, aged 25, from Speke, denies the murder of 30-year-old Mr Basnett, of Mayfield Avenue, Hough Green, Widnes.

The dad-of-three was shot in the head in Hale village, in what prosecution describe as ‘a cold blooded ruthless execution’, shortly after midnight on December 22, 2010.

Eves, of East Damwood Road, claims he was at home alone on the night of the murder.

He also denies the attempted murder of Mr Basnett’s friend, David Garrett, wounding former Liverpool FC academy player James Ellinson and assaulting Mr Basnett’s girlfriend, Kimberley McMahon.
