Man stabbed and another struck with a knife in Runcorn street attack

ONE man was stabbed and another hit on the back of the head with a knife in an unprovoked attack in Runcorn.

Police today appealed for witnesses.

The two men were walking past Grangeway shops when a man approached them and demanded their phones.

He produced a black handled knife and grabbed one of the victims, putting the knife to his throat.

The second victim tried to intervene and was stabbed in the leg.

The first victim then tried to get the knife off the offender which resulted in an injury to his hand. He was also hit on the back of the head with the knife.

Both received superficial injuries which were treated in Warrington Hospital.

The offender ran off in the direction of Thorn Road.

The incident happened between 10.03pm and 10.40pm on Wednesday, February 13.

The offender is described as being of skinny build, 5ft 8ins tall, and spoke with a Widnes accent.

He was wearing a black waterproof jacket with two red vertical stripes on the front, tracksuit bottoms and a black balaclava.
