YOUNG children have been shown how to use the internet responsibly at special e-safety sessions in Widnes.

They discovered what rights they have online and created their own computer programme with practical tips on how to surf safely.

Year five pupils from St Basil’s, St John Fisher, St Michael’s, St Gerrard’s, and Holy Family visited SS Peter & Paul Catholic College for a series of activities, organised as part of national e-safety week.

The Mayor of Halton, Clr Tom McInerney, chatted to children from St Basil’s about the dangers.

He said: “It is fantastic to see you taking on board the messages and learning how to connect with respect.

“It is also fantastic to see two of Halton’s schools work to closely together on such an important innitiative.”

Students at the college also had a special lesson about risks lurking online and were challenged to design their own e-safety ap
