TOTS are celebrating the Chinese New Year in Widnes by creating their own Chinese restaurant.

Children at Warrington Road Nursery School in Naylor Road, Halton View, discovered how the spring festival is marked by eating special food, setting off fireworks, delivering red packages as good wishes and hanging lanterns.

Toddlers will be tasting various oriental dishes, learning to use chopsticks and reading stories.

Amanda Brown, acting head teacher, said: “Role playing in a Chinese restaurant helps the children to begin to understand about different ways of life as well as different occupations.

“They are able to identify similarities and differences to their life, alongside developing conversational skills with their friends.”

The Chinese New Year is on Sunday, February 10.
