Halton MP Derek Twigg opposes Gay marriage

HALTON MP Derek Twigg opposed same-sex marriage in a key Commons vote last night.

Weaver Vale Conservative MP Graham Evans, who represents Runcorn, did not vote.

More than half of David Cameron’s MPs rejected his 11th hour appeals for support as 134 refused the back the legislation. A further 35 did not vote.

Four of the 56 Liberal Democrat MPs opposed the legislation.

The Marriage Same Sex Couples Bill was carried by 400 to 175, a majority of 225.

MPs were given a free vote on the bill, meaning they were not ordered to vote a particularr way by party whips.

The legislation will now receive mroe detailed parliamentary scrutiny.
