A CUTTING edge fashion designer has carved a new career for a Runcorn teenager.
Natalie Beard, who launched her own boutique business, Love Frocks four years ago, has taken on an apprentice.
Former Heath pupil Melissa Skerrett, aged 18, now looks after customer service.
Natalie, aged 28, of Sutton Park, said: “I found myself dividing mjy time between office work and dressmaking.
“It was important for me to take on someone I could trust and feel comfortable around our customers.
“Melissa demonstrated excellent communication skills and has a friendly nature which is ideal.
“I’m confident she will be a great addition to us.”
Natalie worked with local training provider, Total People, to recruit an apprentice.
Melissa loves her new job and hopes to follow in Natalie’s footsteps and become a stylist.
Melissa said: “I’m learning every day, developing my communication skills and confidence.
“I feel it’s much better gaining regular hands-on experience.”
She ensures the office is always staffed and responds quickly to enquires via the website and various forms of social media.
Melissa is also helping to organise fashion shows and was involved in a prom fair last week.
Natalie recently opened a showroom beside her design studio at The Heath Business and Technical Park.
She was eligible for a £1,500 grant from the national apprenticeship service towards the cost of Melissa’s wages.
