AN innovative germ-killing manufacturing business has expanded after a double success at last year’s Halton Business and Tourism Awards.

Since Paul Ward, founder of Paragon PE, won Business of the Year and Innovation Award, his company has generated £200,000 worth of sales from new flu repellent pet products.

Paul, aged 44, said: “It has given us a lot more credibility and opened the door to negotiations on new product lines.

“Buyers liked the way we worked with students at Riverside College to develop ideas.”

Paul opened a new site in St Michael’s Estate in Widnes and has taken on seven staff, including two students who created H2NO, a waterless body wash.

Nominations are now open for this year’s awards. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner in The Holiday Inn, Runcorn, on Friday, April 26.

Paula Cain, chief executive of Halton Chamber of Commerce, said: “The awards recognise and reward excellent performance, good business practices and the success of Halton businesses.”

Sponsors include Reel Cinemas, Langtree, Stobart Group, ABB, Runcorn and Widnes Tourism Business Network and Halton Council.
