DETECTIVES today released this CCTV image after a callous thief stole money from a disabled woman at an ATM in Widnes.

The 62-year-old woman was in the process of withdrawing cash from Albert Square, when she was approached by a man on a bike.

Distracting the victim′s attention, the thief stole £185 in cash from the woman along with her bank card.

DC Tracey Short said: "The victim, who was selflessly grocery shopping on behalf of friends when the thief struck, was left extremely upset by her ordeal.

“We are continuing to follow up a number of enquiries as part of our investigation. These include CCTV enquiries and any relevant forensic enquiries.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and has witnessed what happened or has any information, which might assist with our enquiries, to come forward.”

Fortunately, swift action was taken and the bank card was quickly cancelled.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Beauchamp said: “This is a sickening crime whereby the suspect has preyed on the perceived vulnerabilities of his victim.”

The man, who is described as of thin build and dressed in a dark tracksuit, rode off on a bicycle in the direction of Albert Road. The bike had a black frame with yellow forks on the front wheel and silver handle bars.
