Energy grants up for grabs

CASH is up for grabs to help reduce fuel poverty.

Halton Council is offering £100,000 in grants to help improve the energy efficiency of homes and save money on energy.

Residents will not have to contribute to the costs of any works but they must be completed by Sunday, March 31.

Funds are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

The initiative is part of a £46 million Government pot to help reduce fuel bills, boost energy efficiency, and keep householders warm this winter.

The proposal will help at least 45 households heat and insulate their home more efficiently.

Clr Stef Nelson, board memebr for environmental sustainability, "This is a fantastic opportunity for people to get energy efficient work done for free.

"I would urge as many people as possible to apply as soon as possible."

The grant is targeted at owner occupiers and private tenants who are in receipt of a means tested benefit or have a household income below £15,860, have a boiler that is broken or inefficient, or have loft insulation less than 150mm or un-insulated cavity walls, or have a dependent child, older person or someone with a disability or limiting long term illness living in the property.
