Jobs in Halton at risk as Blockbuster collapses
4:31pm Wednesday 16th January 2013 in News By Barbara Jordan
BLOCKBUSTER, the video and games rental company, has become the latest High Street firm to go into administration after struggling against internet competitors.
The chain has 528 stores, including one in Salisbury Street, Widnes, and one beside Halton Lea in Trident Park, Runcorn.
The Halton workers are among 4,190 staff who are worried about their jobs.
Deloitte, the accountancy firm which has taken over running the firm, said Blockbuster UK would keep trading while it tries to find a buyer.
A spokesman could not confirm the number of employees at each store but added on average five members of staff work at each Blockbuster store.
Lee Manning, from Deloitte's Restructuring Services practice, said: "We are working closely with suppliers and employees to ensure the business has the best possible platform to secure a sale, preserve jobs and generate as much value as possible for all creditors.”
