Wayne Basnett
A CLOSE friend of murder victim Wayne Basnett was ferociously attacked in a Liverpool city centre bar, two months before he was shot dead in Hale village.
It is alleged that David Garrett, aged 27, was stabbed multiple times by Michael Eves in the Newz Bar in Water Street, in the early hours of October 3, 2010.
Ian Unsworth, prosecuting, said: “He was stabbed 15 times in a sudden outburst of extreme violence.
“This was a ruthless attack by a clinical individual who cared little for the consequences.
“Mr Garrett was stabbed in the back, abdomen, legs, arms and hands. It was a vicious, frenzied attempt to kill him.”
CCTV footage showed Eves enter the bar for just 74 seconds whilst he carried out the alleged assault.
It came just minutes after he stabbed an innocent bystander, professional footballer Liverpool FC academy player, 18-year-aold James Ellison in the back.
Both victims ended up in adjacent beds in the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
