A GIFTED schoolboy has won a national singing competition.

Harrison Vaughan, aged nine, from Widnes beat hundreds of entrants from all over the UK in the under 14 musical solo category of UK Festival 4 Stars.

He performed ‘Naughty’ from Matilda.

His mum , Cheryl, aged 39, of Upton Grange, who has a cleaning business, said: “We are very proud of him.

“The judges said he blew them away. He sang ‘Express Yourself’ from Billy Eliot in the semi finals and the judges all stood up and clapped.

“He’s been singing for a couple of years.

“He is very sensitive, shy boy, but as soon as gets on the stage, he loves singing and acting.”

Harrison, a pupil at Holy Family RC Primary School in Cronton, has filmed a role with Hollywood actor Cillian Murphy as a young gypsy boy in a new BBC series ‘Peaky Blinders’, due to be screened late 2013/14.

He attends the Elizabeth Hill School of dance and drama in St Helens.

Harrison is looking forward to watching Matilda with his brother, Brandon, aged 14, a pupil at Wade Deacon, and his dad, Danny, aged 40.
