DEDICATED volunteers who have worked in a Widnes charity shop for 50 years between them have been honoured.

Betty Morris, aged 63, and Joan Cubbon, aged 75, from Widnes, received a national award from Cancer Research UK to mark their outstanding achievement.

The two women were named as honorary fellows in celebration of their unflinching loyalty.

Widnes Scooter Club presented them with silver engraved plates on Saturday.

Charity worker and scooter enthusiast, Tom Noon, aged 50, from Widnes, who works in the intensive care unit at Whiston Hospital, said: “This makes them the longest serving volunteering pair in the UK.

“They are unsung heroes. These two ladies have devoted a quarter of their life to a cause which is absolutely amazing.

“This is our way little way of recognising these people and highlights their sterling work.”

Rob Green from Halton FM presented the volunteers with framed certificates.
