A GIFTED singer with the ‘voice of an angel’ has won a place in the final of a prestigious music competition.

Nadine McGhee, aged 14, from Runcorn, will be competing against the country’s top singers at the Open Mic UK in London’s 02 Arena on Saturday, January 19.

The top prize is £5,000 and a recording contract.

Nadine, of Windmill Hill, said: “It is dead exciting. I love performing in front of anyone.

“My dream is to sing all over the world. It would be amazing if I won.”

She will be performing her cover of Sarah McLaughlin’s Arms Of An Angel, in front of an audience of 3,000.

Celebrity judges will include Radio 1 DJs Ras Kwane and Annie Nightingale, plus top music producers.

More than 9,000 singers auditioned in three age categories, under 16, 16-20 and over 21.

Former St Berteline’s pupil, Nadine, now studies voice at music specialist school, Sir Thomas Boteler High in Latchford.

Her mum, Melanie, aged 35, said: “She got a fantastic response during the auditions. A couple of the judges said she was really amazing.

“She has always loved school productions.”

Nadine, who is learning the guitar and keyboard, started performing in primary school.

Melanie said: “People came up to us and said she has the voice of an angel.

“It’s really powerful, but pure.

“She enjoys singing ballads.”

Nadine’s mum, dad Anthony, aged 35, sister Naomi, aged nine and one-year-old brother, Zak, will be joining relatives from Scotland to travel to London to watch her perform.
