FREE activity groups are now available for disabled youngsters from Runcorn and Widnes.

Everything from music workshops and cooking classes to film nights and graffiti sessions are being offered in a safe and secure environment.

Children and young people up to the age of 17 can take part.

Muneeb Sadiq, enjoyed the activities until he turned 18 last month.

His dad, Hafiz, said: “Muneeb got a lot of joy from them. It was good for him to meet other young people with disabilities and the staff were fantastic. Muneeb loves painting and my house is now full of his canvases and paintings.

“The activity clubs not only benefitted Muneeb, but also provided a short break for myself and my wife. Knowing that he was safe and having fun for a few hours meant we could spend some quality time with our nine-year-old daughter.

“I would definitely encourage other parents of children with disabilities to use the groups.”

The groups are run by Core Children’s Services in partnership with Halton Council.

Andrea Swindells, CCS manager and leader of the Halton activities, said: “The group is proving really popular with both parents and young people. We keep the activities varied and interesting so that the youngsters learn new skills and build confidence.

“Our staff are highly trained to ensure that every young person, no matter how complex their needs, can take part in all of the activities, so parents can rest assured that their child is safe and happy.”

The activity groups are held on Saturdays and after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
