A MAN was struck in the face and fell to the ground in a street robbery in Widnes.
Detectives today appealed for witnesses.
The 20-year-old victim was walking beside St George’s playing fields in Dundalk Road when he was approached by three unknown men.
He was hit in the face and fell on the ground. His wallet was stolen from his pocket and the three men ran off across the playing fields towards Stewards Avenue.
The victim sustained bruising to his face as a result of the incident but did not need hospital treatment.
DC Marc Roberts, who is investigating the incident, said: "We are carrying out a number of enquiries in relation to the incident and are appealing for anyone who has witnessed what happened or has been in the area around that time and has seen a group of men acting suspiciously to get in touch."
The incident happened at around 5.45pm on Thursday, December 27.
All three men were wearing black clothing. One was wearing a bobble hat and the other two were wearing baseball caps.
