AN engineering specialist has won a £1 million contract to deliver a new production facility for Saffil Limited in Widnes.

Boulting Group, the multi-disciplined engineering solutions provider, was awarded the contract at the end of July by TSL Projects, a leading construction company and principal contractor on site.

Work stated in late August and is set to be completed later this month.

Steve Berry, Boulting Group mechanical general manager, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded the mechanical works on Saffil 3.

“It gives us a great opportunity to build on the works we acquired through the Cross takeover and really demonstrate our capabilities to Saffil."

Saffil, which was acquired by Unifrax in 2011, produce and sell highly engineered, polycrystalline wool products for insulation purposes and high temperature solutions.

Boulting acquired works on an existing Saffil Ltd project from the Cross Services takeover earlier this year and went on to win the latest contract through competitive tender.

The £1m project will see Boulting Group install the mechanical services in the proposed plans for the new production facility named ‘Saffil 3'.

This will encompass all ductwork, steelwork, pipework and associated support.

Boulting will provide the necessary project services including project management, installation and fabrication, with all fabrication taking place at Boulting Group's dedicated mechanical manufacturing facility at St Helens.

Paul Bennett, project manager for TSL Projects, said: "Boulting Group has, under exceptionally difficult circumstances, outperformed any other contractor that we have ever worked with.

“We are very happy to be working with them and we would definitely look to continue our relationship on future projects."
