A MULTI-MILLION pound home improvement programme in Widnes has reached the halfway mark.

The £3.76 million refurbishment will transform 1,334 homes in Upton and Ditton.

By the end of March 2013, 1,509 external doors, 379 gutters and fascias, 200 canopies and 169 roofs will have been replaced. New energy efficient boilers will have been fitted and 187 properties rewired.

New bathrooms will be installed in 112 homes, along with 62 kitchens.

John Liptrot, who has lived in Abbey Close, Ditton, for 19 years, said: “They’ve done a really good job. I prefer it to the old one.”

Work to his home included new doors, windows and a canopy.

Halton Housing Trust’s director of regeneration and investment, Paul Mullane, said: “We’re committed to providing quality homes for all of our customers.”
