PERCHED on the edge of the Runcorn Widnes bridge, Alison Hughes felt terrified as she prepared for her daredevil stunt.
She joined 68 fundraisers who leapt off the famous structure on Sunday, raising more than £9,000 for the Stroke Association.
Alison, aged 45, of Lakeside Close, Widnes, did the charity zip slide to thank the charity for caring for her mum, Winifred, aged 79, who had a stroke in 2009.
She said: “It was absolutely terrifying. You had to sit on the railings and get off a step ladder. Even though I was connected to a wire, it was totally scary.
“I didn’t put my hand out to be grabbed at the end and was left dangling in mid air. My parents watched me and thought it was hysterical.”
Alison raised £123 to add to her £1,500 from previous events.
Carer Zoie Upton, aged 22, from Murdishaw, said: “I was really excited. I did it for my nan, Gwen Upton, who had a stroke last October. I want to give something back for the help and support she has received from the Stroke Association.”
Zoie raised £411.
