MOTORISTS are being urged to slow down as firefighters mount a campaign to mark Brake Road Safety Week, which starts on Monday.

Crews will be in shopping centres across Halton warning drivers of the dangers of driving too fast.

This year's theme is slower speeds equals happier people.

Alex Waller, head of service delivery in Halton, said: "Firefighters from Halton will be out and about throughout November to help raise awareness of road safety issues and encourage drivers to slow down around homes, schools and shops.

“We are committed to reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured on our roads and so we are delighted to support Brake with this important campaign.

"Every year on average 44 people are killed or seriously injured on the roads in Halton so it’s vital we continue to work with partners to improve safety on the roads and prevent injuries and deaths."

Firefighters will be at Widnes Asda on Tuesday, November 20, from 2pm to 5pm.

Crews will be at Runcorn’s Halton Lea shopping centre on Thursday, November 22, from 10am to 4pm, Asda Runcorn on Saturday, November 24, from 10.30am to 12 noon, and on Sunday, November 25 from 10am to 4pm.
