WEARING a clerical collar doesn’t have to be dull and boring, say Widnes female clerics.

Two ministers stepped out on to the catwalk to model the latest ecclesiastical designs.

South Widnes team rector the Rev Janice Collier and her curate the Rev Dawn Harrison strutted in front of 3,000 spectators and TV cameras at the ‘Clergy on the Catwalk’ show at the Christian Resources Exhibition.

Mum-of-three Mrs Collier, aged 55, said: “It was really good.

“The collar is our badge of identity so people know what our job is but what you wear underneath is your choice.

“We can wear any colour shirt except purple which is reserved for bishops.

“One of the designers gave us stuff he wanted us to wear but another one brought us a whole collection we could choose from.”

They look after three churches, St Mary’s Hale, St Paul’s, Widnes, and St Mary’s, West Bank.
