RESEARCHERS at SpheriTech based at The Heath Business and Technical Park in Runcorn have made a potentially groundbreaking discovery in regenerative medicine.
The company has developed a three-dimensional synthetic chemical compound which has been proven to aid the regeneration of nerves and kidneys, and is about to test it on skin and cartilage tissue.
The compound also has the potential to help bones, tendons and arteries.
Dr Donald Wellings, SpheriTech CEO and founder, said: “There is a massive shortage of transplant organs, particularly for treatment of kidney diseases.
“Through this technology it will ultimately be possible to supplement the demand for kidney replacement.
“We are currently negotiating with a major international pharmaceutical company regarding licensing Proliferate for them to undertake the necessary clinical trials for internal wound dressings which can cost millions of pounds.”
