FIGHT to save four Widnes schools!
Jeff Hughes, head teacher of Fairfield High School, has issued an eleventh hour plea as councillors are expected to announce its closure on Monday.
"I want to remind people of the importance of this decision," he said.
"If people wish to retain four high schools in Widnes, ensure schools are not too large and give parents choice, they must let councillors know.
"They are looking to develop the town and are upbeat about the bridge and riverside development. They want to attract people to come and live and work here at the same time reducing the scale of education.
"It doesn't seem to match their ambition of growth."
Falling numbers are blamed for the proposed closure.
Fairfield pupils would be transferred to Wade Deacon in 2010 if the proposed £100m vision to re-build Halton's secondary schools goes ahead.
Children would be taught on both sites until sufficient space is created for 1,500 pupils in 2013.

If the last enforced amalgamation is anything to go by, this will be a disaster with all competent staff either moving on, or remaining in post trying their hardest to make the best of a bad job. Just like at Halton High School all over again.
The end result will be a school where mediocrity becomes the standard and the brightest pupils swim against the tide of those who don't want to learn. It takes a particularly high level of self-motivation for a pupil to do well in such a school because the more dedicated teachers have their work cut out looking after the chav element. Welcome to New Labour's idea of the New Jerusalem.
