Matthew Broderick is to play a man seduced by a dog in Broadway comedy Sylvia.

The two-time Tony Award-winner has joined the upcoming cast of A.R. Gurney’s play, opposite fellow Tony-winners Julie White and Annaleigh Ashford.

In this 1995 comic howler, Gurney wrote about a dog who seduces the attentions and affection of a hard-working, middle class husband. The dog will be played by Annaleigh, whose credits include Kinky Boots and You Can’t Take It With You.

By coincidence Sylvia was first produced off-Broadway with Matthew’s wife Sarah Jessica Parker in the doggie role.

The show, directed by Daniel Sullivan, will open in October at the Court Theatre.
