FORMER Bread and Brookside TV star and 80s legend Sonia plays the role of fairy superior in this year’s festive panto Cinderella.

The veteran panto performer spoke about making her debut in Runcorn.

Have you been to The Brindley before?

I hadn’t been to The Brindley before. After going there to watch the fireworks, it looks like a great theatre to do panto and the staff seem great.

Do you live in the area still?

I still live in the north west and see my family all the time. The people are very friendly around here.

Was Eurovision the highlight of your career?

Eurovision was very special to me but having a no 1 record was the highlight of my career.

Have you seen Dawn French’s spoof?

I think Dawn French is great and her send up of me was really funny.

What is magical about panto?

Panto is great for the kids. It is so magical to see their little faces excitably waiting for the story to begin. It always makes my Christmas so special and my six-year-old daughter has six weeks of fairy tale magic.

What made you take this role?

I love playing fairy godmother, telling the story to the kids and all the little girls love my magic wand and costume.

What is your message for people thinking of coming to watch the panto?

They can look forward to a traditional, fun, festive family show with a great story and great songs.

You haven’t changed for 20 years, what is your secret?

My tips are don’t sunbathe and cleanse, tone and moisturise.

Thanks Sonia. Enjoy your time here in Halton.

I can't wait to start rehearsals and I would encourage everyone to come and see the show. It will be a magical experience.
